When Should a New Hire Take the IICRC WRT Course?

Anyone in the water damage restoration industry should take an IICRC Water Restoration Technician (WRT) course. The WRT course is a multi-day technical course on all things water damage restoration. After taking the course with LearnToRestore.com and passing the IICRC exam, students will earn their certification. So, when should a new employee take the WRT course? There are a couple of options!

Take the IICRC WRT Course

Take the WRT Course During the Onboarding Process

If the new employee is planning to jump into the field right away, taking the course during their initial onboarding may be a good idea. This lets them get the technical knowledge they can later apply in the field.

Wait 3-6 Months to get Field Experience

If the technician will be working in a team with someone else, it may be helpful for them to work in the field for 3-6 months before taking a WRT course. This allows them to see the fieldwork and learn on the job from their peers and supervisors. When they take the Water Restoration Technician course after being in the field for a few months, they may make better connections of what is being taught in the class, to what they have seen in the field.

Take an Intro to Water Damage Course

If you want your new hire to understand the technical restoration process but aren’t ready to take the WRT course just yet, our Intro to Water Damage course is a good fit!

Intro to Water Damage Self-Paced Course

The LearnToRestore.com Intro to Water Damage Restoration course is an on-demand, self-paced course. This allows the student to complete the course on their schedule and learn water damage restoration basics. This course is based on the S500 Standard for Professional Water Damage Restoration and discusses many of the topics taught in the WRT course.

IICRC Apprentice Skills Course

The IICRC Apprentice Skills in Water Damage Restoration (ASPWR) is a 4-hour introduction course that is completed live-stream. After completing the course and passing the exam, the student will earn an IICRC Certificate of Training. This is not the same as an IICRC certification, but it does allow the student to earn an IICRC certificate. The IICRC ASPWR course is completed live-stream and is not self-paced. It does not cover as many topics as the self-paced Intro to Water Damage course, but it is taught by an instructor so students can ask questions during the class.

At LearnToRestore.com we have students brand new to the restoration industry, to students who have been in the industry for a long time! No matter your goals, we are here to help.
