In the IICRC water damage course, students will learn the fundamentals of restoration. Taught by industry experts, students will attend the class in either an online live-stream format led by an instructor in our Zoom classroom. Students can also join us for an in-person course. Should I take the WRT Course?
The IICRC WRT certification is often the first class students take in their restoration industry education, and is the most popular course we offer! The Water Restoration Technician course will give you the foundation of mitigation and water damage restoration. Starting from basic principles that build upon each other, so students have a full understanding of what water damage restoration entails, the types of equipment used, how much equipment is needed, psychrometry, moisture meters, moisture readings, and much more. Anyone can take the WRT class; there are no prerequisites or experience required!

How many questions are on the WRT exam?
The WRT exam consists of 84 multiple-choice questions.
What is the passing score for the WRT exam?
To pass the WRT exam, students must receive a 75% or higher score.
Is the WRT exam open-book or closed-book?
The IICRC Water Restoration Technician exam is closed-book and closed-notes.
Does the WRT certification expire?
The IICRC WRT certification expires after 1-year. To renew, students must pay a yearly renewal fee. Additionally, every 4 years, students must earn 14 Continuing Education Credits.
What is the WRT certification?
WRT stands for Water Restoration Technician, and is a certification students earn after attending an IICRC-approved WRT course and passing the WRT exam. Students can choose from a robust class schedule and earn their WRT course online with LearnToRestore.com, the number one IICRC-approved school with classes every week.
How long is the WRT class?
The IICRC WRT class is a 3-day class; however, LearnToRestore.com also offers a 4-half-day option.
When do I take the WRT exam?
After completing the online live-stream WRT class, students have a 45-day window to take the exam online through the IICRC exam portal. For in-person WRT classes, students will take the exam on the last day of class.
How much is the WRT exam cost?
The WRT exam costs $80. If you fail the exam, there is an $80 retest fee.
Can I retake the WRT exam?
Yes, you can retake the WRT exam if you fail. Students have three attempts to pass the exam. Each exam attempt has an $80 exam fee. If you fail the third attempt, you will need to take the WRT class again before an additional exam retake. If you fail the exam three times and need to take the class again, we will put you in a refresher class for free!
What is the ANSI/IICRC S500 Standard?
The ANSI/IICRC S500 Standard for Professional Water Damage Restoration outlines principles and procedures for water damage restoration. The WRT class is based on the S500. Fun fact: many LearnToRestore.com instructors help write the S500!
Can I take the WRT class online?
Yes, students can take the Water Restoration Technician course online at LearnToRestore.com. The course is a live-stream, instructor-led course, so you can see and hear the instructor and other students, ask questions, and participate just like an in-person class!
Is the WRT exam taken online or in person?
Students completing the online live-stream WRT class will take the exam online through the IICRC exam portal. Students completing the in-person WRT class will take the exam in person on the last day of class.
Do I need any experience to take the WRT course?
Nope! Anyone can take the Water Restoration Technician course; there are no prerequisites or experience requirements. We regularly have students ranging from brand new to the industry to those who have been in the industry for decades. Is a license required to perform water damage restoration?
You typically don’t need a contractor’s license to perform water damage restoration; however, many of the actions performed in water damage restoration work may fall under another license category.
Is WRT a prerequisite for other IICRC courses like ASD or AMRT?
Yes, WRT is a prerequisite for both the ASD and AMRT courses, meaning you must take the WRT course before you take the Applied Structural Drying or Applied Microbial Remediation Technician courses. Should WRT be the first IICRC certification I earn?
WRT is the most popular IICRC-approved course and is usually the first certification students earn; however, you can earn IICRC certifications in any order you choose.

The WRT course costs $449 per student. If you register 4 or more students, a 10% discount is automatically applied.
Is the IICRC exam fee included in the WRT course price?
No, the IICRC exam fee is not included in the WRT course price. The $80 exam fee is paid directly to the IICRC and is in addition to the course price.
Is the WRT course offered online, and does live-stream count the same as in-person?
Yes, we offer the WRT course both online and in-person. Both course options earn the same certification without any differentiation.
Is the WRT course available in Spanish?
