IICRC Carpet Repair and Reinstallation Technician (RRT)

The IICRC RRT – Carpet Repair and Reinstallation Technician – course is designed to teach students the techniques and safety issues related to carpet repair and re-installation, carpet construction, the inspection process prior to cleaning, tools of the trade, floor preparation, adhesives, carpet cushion (pad) installation, tackless strip and moldings, seaming, and proper stretching. This class also teaches various repairs that the carpet cleaner and restorer may see while dealing with an installed textile. This knowledge will enable the technician to recognize and avoid installation problems that may arise while performing carpet cleaning as well as how to correct many issues encountered.

Should I take the RRT Course?

The IICRC RRT is an essential course for anyone who works in the carpet cleaning industry! This course will teach students what to look for, common carpet issues, and how to correct those issues. When paired with our IICRC carpet cleaning course, you will have a great foundation for your carpet cleaning and repair journey!

After taking this course, students will have the opportunity to take the IICRC RRT exam. After passing the exam, the student will receive their RRT certification. Our RRT course prepares students for the exam following class and, more importantly, for real-world applications.

IICRC RRT is Required for IICRC Master Designations

The Carpet Repair and Reinstallation Technician is a required certification to earn the IICRC Master Water Restorer and Master Textile Cleaner designations.

Do I have to be in class the entire time?​

The IICRC requires students to attend the full duration of the RRT class to be eligible to take the certification exam.

Can I use an iPhone to take the live-stream class?

Students must use a computer or tablet to attend the IICRC RRT class.

When and how do I take the RRT exam?

Students have a 45-day window after the Carpet Repair and Reinstallation Technician class to complete the exam online through the IICRC exam portal. For in person classes, students will take the exam on the last day of class.

Does the RRT certification expire?

The IICRC RRT certification doesn’t expire as long as it is renewed. 

What time zone is the RRT class in?

The RRT class schedule is shown in Pacific Standard Time (PST). If you need help determining what time the class starts for your location, see our page on time zones.

After attending the course, students can take the RRT exam. Upon passing the RRT exam, the IICRC will issue the student a certification, and mail a certificate for you to display! Students are able to take the exam after attending a RRT course with LearnToRestore.com.

How much is the IICRC RRT exam fee?

The RRT exam fee is $80.

Can I use notes on the exam?

The IICRC RRT exam is a closed book and closed notes exam.

When do I take the RRT exam?

Students attending the live-stream online RRT course will complete the exam online after the class through the IICRC exam portal. You have 45-days to complete the exam after class ends. 

Students attending the in-person course will complete the exam on the last day of class. 

Can I retake the RRT exam?

You have three attempts to pass the RRT exam. Each exam attempt has an $80 exam fee. If you fail the third attempt, you will need to take the RRT class again before an additional exam retake. If you fail the exam three times and need to take the class again, we will put you in a refresher class for free!
