The IICRC Contents Processing Technician (CPT) certification course is designed to provide essential education for technicians in the practice of contents recovery and processing from loss events such as fire, water, mold, infectious disease, and trauma scenes.

This in-depth contents training course will include topics such as health and safety, contamination characteristics, inspection, inventory methods, packing procedures, transport, cleaning, deodorizing, storage, and pack-back principles. When coupled with additional on-the-job training and field experience, students will be adequately prepared to perform and document typical residential or commercial contents recovery and restoration projects from start to finish!

Should I take the CPT Course?

The IICRC CPT certification is key for anyone who handles contents during a restoration project. The Contents Processing Technician course will give you the foundation of cleaning, processing, transporting, and packing out contents. Anyone can take the CPT class, there are no prerequisites or experience required!

After taking this course, students will have the opportunity to take the IICRC CPT exam. After passing the exam, the student will receive their certification. Our CPT course prepares students for the exam following class and, more importantly, for real-world applications.

Do I have to be in class the entire time?​

The IICRC requires students to attend the full duration of class to be eligible to take the certification exam.

Can I use an iPhone for this class?

Students must use a computer or tablet to view the certification class.

When and how do I take the CPT exam?

Students have a 45-day window after class to complete the exam online through the IICRC exam portal after the CPT class ends. For in-person classes, students will take the exam on the last day of class.

Does the CPT certification expire?

The IICRC CPT certification doesn’t expire as long as they are renewed. 

What time zone is the class in?

The CPT classes are shown in Pacific Standard Time (PST). If you need help determining what time the class starts for your location, see our page on time zones.

After attending the course, students can take the Contents Processing Technician (CPT) exam. Upon passing the exam, the IICRC will issue the student a certification, and mail a certificate for you to display! Students are able to take the exam after attending a CPT course with LearnToRestore.com.

How much is the IICRC CPT exam fee?

The CPT exam fee is $80.

Can I use notes on the exam?

The IICRC CPT exam is a closed book and closed notes exam.

When do I take the CPT exam?

Students attending the live-stream online CPT course will complete the exam online after the class through the IICRC exam portal. You have 45-days to complete the exam after class ends. 

Students attending the in-person course will complete the exam on the last day of class. 

Can I retake the CPT exam?

You have three attempts to pass the CPT exam. Each exam attempt has an $80 exam fee. If you fail the third attempt, you will need to take the CPT class again before an additional exam retake. If you fail the exam three times and need to take the class again, we will put you in a refresher class for free!
